Gareth Chilcott opens Bristol music venue -

Former England rugby star Gareth Chilcott has achieved his long-term ambition of opening an exciting new live music venue, unlike any other in Bristol. Gareth played for England as prop 14 times between 1984 and 1989 and made 373 appearances for Bath Rugby Club from 1977 until he retired in 1993. Now a successful businessman, Gareth is also currently Honorary President of the Wooden Spoon Rugby Charity, dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children and young people.

The dramatic transformation of two former railway arches, originally designed by Isambard Brunel took just five months. This is an impressive feat, given the challenges involved in converting a Grade I listed building and getting the project through planning. Armada funded the complete fit-out, including CCTV and Epos systems, audio equipment and lighting. It's open at the weekends, showcasing both established and emerging talent from local and internationally known bands.

Gareth said: "I simply couldn't have opened The Tunnels without Armada's support as no other lender was willing to offer this type of funding. I was really impressed by the level of communication with Nicky Wilkins. He was always at the end of the phone to offer advice on how to handle the project, not just the funding. Most importantly, everything was sorted out quickly when speed was essential and Nicky even liaised with the other companies involved to take the strain off me. Armada will definately be at the forefront of any projects I take on in the future."
